TURNIP FOR CHANGE

On September 10th at 7 PM, the Food Literacy Project and Apron Inc will host TURNIP FOR CHANGE, a virtual fundraiser via Facebook Live (www.facebook.com/TheFoodLiteracyProject). Marker’s Mark plans to stir-up a signature cocktail, and the team from Annoosh Bistro will cook-up a rustic dish in the Food Literacy Project’s outdoor kitchen.
For more than a decade, local chefs and the Louisville restaurant community have supported the work of the Food Literacy Project, giving time to programs for youth and leading our annual fundraiser. This year, the Food Literacy Project will share proceeds from the annual fund with APRON Inc, a Louisville-based non-profit providing temporary, limited financial relief to professional food and beverage industry workers in Louisville.
Funds raised during this event will help meet urgent needs and provide resources to GROW FORWARD, cultivating a healthy and equitable community. The event webpage at www.foodliteracyproject.org/turnip-for-change provides guests with the ingredients to host a unique small gathering or a virtual house party for fellow food lovers. (e.g., recipes, videos, wine recommendations, opportunity to order produce from a local farmer). Tickets priced at $125.00 are on sale TODAY at www.foodliteracyproject.org/turnip-for-change/. Sponsorships for the event range from $350.00 to $3,000+.
##
About the Food Literacy Project - The Food Literacy Project’s mission is youth transforming their communities through food, farming, and the land. Working towards a healthy and equitable community where people and places thrive since 2006, The Food Literacy Project has engaged over 45,000 youth and families to discover the joy and power of growing, cooking, and eating wholesome foods, while deepening their connection to the land, cultivating leadership, employment and community engagement skills, and fostering relationships that support healthy lifestyles. Through our programs, youth and families experience gardening, cooking, nutrition, food systems, leadership, and food justice, gaining the knowledge, skills, and access needed to thrive and drive community change. In response to the immediate needs for healthy food, The Food Literacy Project decided to share our harvest with neighbors in need this season – instead of taking those crops to market. We have partnered with Ag in the City, South Louisville Community Ministries, and Southwest Community Ministries to ensure the efficient distribution of this produce. The mission of APRON, Inc. is to provide temporary, limited financial relief to professional food and beverage industry workers in the Louisville, KY metro area who work at locally owned establishments and who are experiencing financial distress due to illness, injury or other issues. Foodservice professionals who have suffered an accident, family emergency, criminal act committed against such person or other catastrophic events are eligible for assistance.
