Sculptor Patrick Dougherty, who has built more than 200 “installations” out of sticks all around the world, was in residence at Bernheim in April. His work there — Snake Hollow — has been constructed out of willow saplings, a renewable resource whose harvest creates little environmental impact. His installations, from North Carolina to England to Japan, have life spans from two to 10 years.
