Edible Louisville Magazine

The idea of starting Edible magazine in Kentucky sparked in 2009. I had just finished reading two favorite books — Deep Economy by Bill McKibben and Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry. Together they solidified my thinking about the importance of building a strong LOCAL economy. Then, while occasionally visiting my daughter at Middlebury College in Vermont, I discovered Edible Green Mountain and enjoyed looking for new editions every time we visited. With my wife being a dedicated farmers market shopper and a great home cook, we decided Louisville could use its own Edible with its mission of supporting local food.

In the fall of 2009, I contacted the founders of Edible Communities in Santa Fe and secured the membership license for this region. At the same time, I asked Sarah Fritschner if she would join me as Editor. Not only did she agree, but she also brought along her next-door neighbor, the talented Leslie Friesen, as our designer. Along with original ad reps Julia Clements and Erin Heine and photographers Andy Hyslop and John Rott, suddenly we had an A+ team and went to work with Edible Louisville launching in March 2010.

With an evolving wonderful team of people shown on the adjacent page, we have just completed the 58th edition and tenth year of “Celebrating the Pleasure of Local Food and Beverage” in Kentucky. As we enter our second decade as Edible Kentucky, we encourage you to share our magazine with others and support our advertising partners so we may continue to tell the stories of many more local champions that make our region’s food and beverage economy uniquely special.

The 2020’s – so many more stories to tell!
