Wilderness Trail Distillery (photo above) has waited over four long years to share its Bourbon. "While our goal is to age much longer, these are special barrels that really shined at a little over four years," says Shane Baker, co-owner of the Distillery with Dr. Pat Heist. Zero in on Phocus
You’ve just found another reason to put down those calorie-laden sodas and energy drinks. Phocus is a caffeinated sparkling water derived from green tea, containing about as much caffeine as an eight-ounce cup of coffee. It is kosher, vegan, non-dairy, non-GMO and gluten free, and Phocus contains no calories, preservatives, sweeteners or sodium. Flavors include grapefruit, cucumber, blood orange, yuzu & lime, and a natural sparkling water.

Two medals for Transformation Spirits
Botanical-based Louisville company Transformation Spirits won two bronze medals at the 2018 American Distilling Institute Craft Spirits Awards for the soon-to-be-released London Dry Gin and Limited Release Bourbon–Barreled Rested Gin. The spirits are the creation of Hospitality Specialists Tara Ogden and Stuart Stein, who is featured chef in this issue.
Donum Dei becomes a “brew-stillery”
Donum Dei in New Albany has expanded to produce beer and spirits, becoming the region’s only “brew-stillery,” creating small-batch beer and artisan spirits. Beers range from hoppy, fruity Amarus IPA to malty, smooth Scottish ale Unicorn. Spirits include whiskey, vodka, gin and apple brandy.
Starring role for our favorite sip
What’s better than bourbon in your glass? Bourbon on the big screen. A new documentary, NEAT: The Story of Bourbon, explores the history, process and artistry of this unique Kentucky spirit. The film showcases local leaders, including Jimmy Russell from Wild Turkey, Fred Noe of Jim Beam, Denny Potter of Heaven Hill, Freddie Johnson of Buffalo Trace, Marianne Barnes of Castle & Key and Chris Morris of Woodford Reserve. In its second year, Travel the Trail Custom Bourbon Tours offers tours to distilleries and horse farms around the region, teaming with regional inns and bed and breakfasts for custom tours. Lee Buckner and his wife Mary Ann have become Certified Tourism Ambassadors to promote Louisville and its attractions.
Jeptha Creed wins Derby crown
Simpsonville distillery Jeptha Creed has been named as the official vodka for the 2018 Kentucky Derby Festival. Jeptha’s Original Vodka and Blueberry Vodka will be available at all Derby events serving alcohol. As a result, Jeptha has created the Bluegrass Belle cocktail made with Jeptha Creed Blueberry Flavored Vodka, mint simple syrup, lime juice and Sprite, with a mint sprig garnish.
