Edible Louisville Magazine Holiday 2020

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

“May you experience many moments of kindness — both in receiving and in giving.”

Undeniably small businesses have been severely impacted by the pandemic. We were no exception. We paused our publication at the start of the pandemic in mid-March and Edible Ohio Valley led a regional approach during the summer and fall. We are now excited to be back with this Holiday issue.

We hope the combination of new and returning advertisers along with a robust group of subscribers will sustain us and allow the continuation of Kentucky’s only publication wholly dedicated to food and a local food economy.

We honor the many workers who are keeping our food systems moving — from the farmers growing our food to the restaurants and stores adhering to safe practices so we can feed our families and ourselves. Along with healthcare providers, teachers and essential workers of all stripes, these people are today’s true and worthy heroes.

We know it is challenging to see positive aspects in times like these but look closely and they are there. Some that come to mind:

  • More time spent with families
  • More home-cooked meals prepared and eaten together
  • Trying new recipes
  • Buying and supporting local
  • Being more aware of neighbors in need
  • Finding creative new ways to remain socially engaged while social distancing

For these reasons, part of me will be sad when life returns to a more hectic pace again as it surely will at some point in the future. I continue to ask myself, “What are the things I wish I had done with this time once it’s gone?”

We are grateful for you, our loyal readers and advertising partners, as your support of us and each other will help us weather this unprecedented time. Stay safe.

Our hope for all this upcoming holiday season and beyond: May you experience many moments of kindness — both in receiving and in giving.

With gratitude for health, family and friends,
Steve Makela, Publisher
