Agua Fresca: Watermelon-Jalapeño

Spanish for “ fresh waters,” this Watermelon-Jalapeño agua fresca is satisfying and refreshing for guests of all ages.

Ingredients

SERVINGS: 10-12 Serving(s)
For the simple syrup:
  • 3 jalapeños, seeded and deveined
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup agave
  • Pinch of salt
For the agua fresca:
  • 1 medium seedless watermelon, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup jalapeño simple syrup
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 5 cups water
  • 1 lemon, sliced, for garnish

Instructions

Combine all of the simple syrup ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium and cook for 20 minutes, stirring frequently. Set aside to cool.

Combine watermelon, jalapeño simple syrup, lime juice and water in a blender and blend for about 30 seconds. Do not strain. Pour into glasses full of ice, garnish with a lemon slice and serve immediately (or refrigerate for 30 minutes for a more intense flavor).
